Eastcote Nursery

Our Eastcote Nursery is set back off the main road of Field End Road, looking onto Cavendish Park, giving us a lovely view from the nursery away from all the traffic and noise. We make regular use of the park and surrounding areas; visiting the play area, searching for wildlife, building snowmen in the winter and visiting the local shops and library.

We are registered to care for 26 children a day and we cater for children aged 12months to 5 years. At Eastcote, we strive to create a family feel environment where the children and their families can feel secure and safe in our care. It is our aim that the children are happy, well cared for and that they have every opportunity to develop and learn in a stimulating environment. We provide a variety of activities throughout the day and all our toys and equipment are available for the children to access during their stay at nursery. We encourage free flow between all areas within the nursery and give children the choice to play inside or outside.

We have two gardens, one of which is set up every day aiming to provide the same learning opportunities that the children have if they play inside. The back garden is much more spacious and has a climbing frame, slide, tunnel and mud kitchen. We have a covered sand pit and there is a natural area where the children can dig in the ground and explore their environment as well as looking after vegetables and flowers that we plant seasonally. During the term time the over two year old’s are offered an extra curricular activity that promotes physical development by using different sports. This is at an extra charge to the families.

Our dedicated, enthusiastic, fun-loving and caring team work in partnership with our parents, help the children to grow and develop to their full potential. We operate a key person system, whereby a member of staff works closely with the same small group of children, writing observations and taking photos on each child and planning activities around their children's development and interests, following the Birth to 5 curriculum. The keyworker system also helps to develop a relationship with our children’s parents and family. As well as the Birth to 5 curriculum we also include different topics that cover a variety of themes, for example ourselves, animals, holidays, the world around us and many more. We use our staff’s extensive knowledge to create a wide variety of fun and stimulating activities that will excite, develop and challenge the children to their fullest potential. We celebrate each child’s individuality and abilities. If a child has additional needs, we will provide a more targeted approach that offers support to the child so that they are able to achieve their outcomes. We will work in partnership with the parents and other external agencies to support and develop the child to their fullest potential.

All the food we provide is nutritionally well balanced and mostly homemade following the Healthy Early Years London guidance. We provide breakfast of cereals and toast with milk. We provide hot lunches which are varied giving our children a wide variety of different tastes. At tea we provide a variety of snack food e.g. sandwiches, soup, cheese or egg on toast, sausage in rolls, etc. Fruit is served to children in the morning as a snack and in the afternoon following their tea. We encourage the parents to provide suggestions and ideas for meals. We create social family like mealtimes encouraging the children to talk about what they have been doing during the day or at home as well as encouraging them to be independent – attempting to serve their own food and the older children are supported to clear the table once they have all finished their meals.

In creating a supportive and balanced nursery environment we hope that the children leaving us to go to school are independent, confident, resilient, show curiosity and empathy, are able to problem solve with a can do attitude and have the ability to make choices and friends. As well having a knowledge of the community around them and the wider world, having a healthy lifestyle and the ability to manage and understand feelings and emotions.
